I think you might be giving Ben Stein too much credit. I agree that he's smart enough to know ID is bullcrap, but he also knows that anti-intellectualism helps conservatives stay in power and ID is a handy tool to drum up anti-intellectualism. I mean, you might as well assume Ann Coulter is just messing with people. I doubt she believes everything she says but she intends for the dumb, impressionable masses to believe it and so does Ben.
